A man in China has filed a lawsuit in an effort to recover 30 domain names he says were stolen from his GoDaddy account.
Shuiying Wang filed the in rem lawsuit (pdf) in U.S. District Court in Virginia, where registry Verisign is located. He alleges the following domains were stolen from him:
.com domains: 016, 100700, 160365, 2260, 365r, 391, 4440, 551, 5528, 5674, 5796, 6020, 6218, 6653, 739, 7753, 8194, 860, 8817, 8847, 8894, 89948, 9085, 9786, 9975, blcp, and vip860
.net domains: 4440, 860
.cc domain: 2020
This is a valuable portfolio with four three-digit .com domains.
Shuiying says the theft occurred in November 2021 but he didn’t learn of it until March 2022. It’s difficult to verify these dates and the veracity of the allegations because many of the domains’ Whois records are obscured.
According to an affidavit submitted with the lawsuit, the domain names have generated $1,680 in revenue and roughly 16,800 unique visits on average each day since he bought them.
Shuiying is represented by War IP Law and Ni, Wang & Massand.
